By Air

Oakland is served by both the Oakland International Airport (OAK) and the San Francisco International Airport (SFO).

Oakland International Airport (OAK)

Downtown Oakland is approximately 9 miles from Oakland International Airport. OAK has two terminals, Terminal 1 and Terminal 2.

BART from OAK to Downtown Oakland

The easiest way to get from the airport to downtown is via Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART). The BART to OAK connector line opened in late 2014 and is used to link the airport with BART at the Coliseum Station. The Oakland Airport BART station is located just across from the Terminal 1 baggage claim area and a short walk from Terminal 2. Travel time between the airport and Coliseum is 8 minutes and, during peak hours, trains run every 5 minutes. At Coliseum Station transfer to a Richmond-bound BART train and get off at 12th St. Oakland City Center Station. The trip should take about 10 minutes. The Oakland Marriott City Center is less than 1 block from the BART station. The total fare for BART from OAK to Downtown Oakland is $7.85.

Consult the BART website for more details and assistance in planning your trip.

Although it is significantly further to Oakland from SFO, BART is still the preferred mode of transport. BART operates rail service to San Francisco and the East Bay directly from SFO. BART is easily accessed from any terminal by riding SFO’s AirTrain to the Garage G/BART Station stop. There is no charge to board AirTrain. At the BART station, board a Pittsburg/Bay Point-bound BART train and get off at 12th Street Oakland City Center Station. The trip should take about 45 minutes.
